About this website
REAPER (Rapid Environment for Audio Production, Engineering, and Recording) is a professional digital audio workstation (DAW) and MIDI sequencer software developed by Cockos Incorporated, a company founded in 2004 by Justin Frankel (the creator of Winamp and Gnutella). Headquartered in New York City, Cockos has built a reputation for creating one of the most efficient and customizable DAWs on the market. First released in 2005, the software has grown to compete with industry leaders like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live at a fraction of the cost. Key features: audio recording: multi-track recording with support for unlimited tracks, 64-bit floating-point audio processing, and sample rates up to 384 kHz. Full MIDI editing with piano roll, event list, and inline MIDI editing. Audio editing: non-destructive editing with fades, crossfades, pitch shifting, time stretching (Elastique Pro 3 algorithm by zplane development), and reverse. The razor editing tool allows quick splitting and trimming directly on the timeline. Effects and plugins: supports VST, VST3, AU, DX, and JS (Jesusonic) plugin formats. Ships with a comprehensive suite of built-in effects including ReaEQ (parametric EQ), ReaComp (compressor), ReaVerb (convolution reverb), ReaTune (pitch correction), ReaGate (noise gate), ReaDelay, and JS-level scripting for custom effects. ReaPlugs are also available as standalone VST plugins. Routing: unlimited routing matrix with track sends, receives, and parallel routing chains. Each track can send to any number of other tracks, enabling complex signal flows. Control surface support: MCU, HUI, OSC. Automation. Video scoring. Customizable. Windows, macOS, Linux. Proprietary with 60-day trial.
