About this website
Remotion is an innovative open-source framework that enables developers to create videos programmatically using React. Founded by Jonny Burger and developed by the Remotion team, it brings the full power of React's component model, hooks, and declarative programming paradigm to video production. Instead of using traditional video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, developers write React components that render frames, and Remotion orchestrates these frames into complete video files using server-side rendering and FFmpeg. The framework supports an extensive set of video production capabilities: timeline-based composition with sequences, frame-by-frame rendering with deterministic random values (ensuring identical output on every render), animation via the interpolate and spring functions, text rendering with custom fonts and styling, image and video embedding, audio tracks with volume control and fading, transitions and effects, and multi-threaded rendering for faster video generation. Remotion can render videos at any resolution and frame rate, from social media formats (1080x1080 at 30fps) to 4K cinematic productions (3840x2160 at 60fps). Output formats include MP4 (H.264/H.265), WebM, and GIF. The framework also provides the Remotion Lambda offering for serverless video rendering on AWS, capable of distributing rendering across hundreds of Lambda functions for parallel frame computation. Remotion Player allows embedding interactive video previews in web applications. As of 2026, Remotion has over 21,000 GitHub stars and offers both a free community edition and commercial licenses for teams and enterprises.
