SAAMA South Africa

The South African Asset Management Association, known as SAAMA, is the professional body for asset management practitioners in South Africa, headquartered in Pretoria. Founded in 1997, SAAMA promotes excellence in asset management across both physical infrastructure assets and financial asset portfolios, serving professionals in utilities, municipalities, mining companies, transportation agencies, oil and gas companies, and manufacturing firms. South Africa has some of the largest infrastructure asset bases on the African continent, including the state-owned power utility Eskom operating dozens of coal-fired and nuclear power stations, the national rail and port operator Transnet, and extensive municipal water and road infrastructure networks. SAAMA offers training and certification programs based on the ISO 55000 series of asset management standards, organizes an annual national conference bringing together hundreds of asset management professionals, and publishes technical guidance on asset lifecycle planning, maintenance optimization, and risk-based asset management.
