About this website

Scilab is a free open-source software for numerical computation providing a powerful computing environment for engineering and scientific applications. Developed by Scilab Consortium at Inria since 1990 and transferred to ESI Group in 2010, Scilab is widely used in European academia and industry. Key features: matrix-based numerical computation with dense and sparse matrices, linear algebra, polynomial operations, and rational fractions. Over 1,500 built-in mathematical functions including optimization, statistics, signal processing, control systems, and differential equations. Scilab scripting language with dynamic typing, functions, control structures, and object-oriented features via ATOMS modules. Optimization toolbox including linear programming, quadratic programming, nonlinear optimization, least squares, and genetic algorithms. Signal processing with FFT, convolution, correlation, filtering, spectral analysis, and wavelet transforms. Control systems analysis including state-space, Bode plots, Nyquist plots, root locus, and PID controller design. Xcos graphical dynamic systems modeler for simulating hybrid dynamic systems similar to Simulink with ODE solvers. 2D and 3D plotting with parametric, surface, contour plots and LaTeX annotations. ATOMS module repository with community toolboxes for image processing, neural networks, and parallel computing. HDF5 file support for large scientific datasets. Interface with C, Fortran, and Python.
