Thanos Prometheus HA Storage

Thanos is a CNCF incubating open source project that provides a highly available Prometheus setup with long term storage capabilities. Founded by engineers at Improbable in 2017, Thanos extends Prometheus by adding a set of components that transform a single-node Prometheus deployment into a distributed, scalable metrics system with unlimited data retention. The project delivers four key capabilities: Global Query View that enables querying metrics across multiple Prometheus servers and clusters through a unified Thanos Query component; Unlimited Retention by uploading Prometheus block data to object storage backends including AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, OpenStack Swift, and Tencent COS; Prometheus Compatibility that allows existing tools like Grafana to query Thanos using the standard Prometheus HTTP API; and Downsampling and Compaction for massive query speedups when querying large time ranges. Thanos is used in production by Adobe, ByteDance, eBay, Monzo Bank, Tencent, SoundCloud, Wise, Amadeus, Banco do Brasil, Itau Unibanco, Hotstar, PagBank, ProSiebenSat.1, and hundreds of other companies worldwide. The project maintains active community governance through the CNCF with bi-weekly community meetings and Slack channels. Licensed under Apache 2.0, Thanos ships as container images on Quay.io and Docker Hub with 13,000 plus stars on GitHub.
