About this website
YOURLS (Your Own URL Shortener) is a free and open-source self-hosted URL shortener application written in PHP. Created in 2009 by Lester Chan and Ozh Richard, YOURLS allows individuals and organizations to run their own URL shortening service, providing full control over data, branding, and features. The project has been downloaded over 2 million times and is maintained by a community of contributors. Key features: self-hosted: runs on any web server with PHP and MySQL or MariaDB. Full control over data privacy, custom domains, and feature customization. No reliance on third-party services that may change terms or shut down. URL shortening: create short, memorable links from long URLs. Each short link consists of a base domain and a keyword (sequential base36, random, or custom). Custom keywords: define your own short keywords (e.g., example.com/launch instead of example.com/4f7a2). Bookmarklet: a browser bookmarklet for one-click shortening from any web page. Statistics: track click counts, referrers, geographic locations, visitor browsers, and platforms for each short link. A comprehensive admin dashboard shows overall statistics and per-link data. Public or private mode: in public mode, anyone can create short links. In private mode, only authenticated users with username and password can create links. API: a full REST API for programmatic link creation, expansion, and statistics retrieval. Supports JSON and XML output formats. Plugins: extensible plugin architecture for custom functionality. Over 100 community plugins available for analytics, QR codes, social sharing, spam filtering, and more. Geo-targeting: redirect to different URLs based on visitor location (via plugins). Multi-user support. Export and import links. PHP. MIT.
