About this website

CesiumJS is a free and open-source JavaScript library for creating 3D globes and 2D maps in web browsers without any plugins, providing high-performance rendering of massive geospatial datasets including 3D terrain, imagery, 3D models (3D Tiles), and point clouds. Developed by Analytical Graphics Inc. (AGI, headquartered in Exton, Pennsylvania, now Cesium GS Inc., founded in 2018 by Patrick Cozzi and others) and first released in 2012, CesiumJS is used by defense agencies, government organizations, and commercial companies worldwide for geospatial visualization, mission planning, and urban simulation. Key features: 3D globe rendering: renders a virtual 3D globe using WebGL, with support for terrain (via quantized-mesh terrain providers including Cesium Ion, Maptiler, and custom terrain servers), satellite imagery (Bing Maps, Esri ArcGIS, Mapbox, OpenStreetMap, and custom imagery providers), and 3D models. 3D Tiles: the OGC 3D Tiles standard (developed by Cesium) for streaming massive heterogeneous 3D geospatial datasets including photogrammetry models, point clouds (LiDAR), BIM (Building Information Modeling), and instanced models. 3D Tiles enables level-of-detail streaming of datasets with billions of features. Time-dynamic data: CesiumJS has built-in support for time-dynamic visualization (CZML - Cesium Language), enabling animation of moving objects (satellites, aircraft, vehicles) with position, orientation, and properties changing over time. Entity API: high-level API for creating entities (points, billboards, labels, polylines, polygons, volumes, models) with time-dynamic properties. Primitive API: low-level rendering API for custom graphics. Camera controls: fly-to camera animations, view from specific locations, and free-look navigation. Coordinate systems: support for WGS84, geographic coordinates, UTM, and custom coordinate systems. CZML: JSON-based format for describing time-dynamic scenes. Apache-2.0.
