About this website

Circonus is a full-stack monitoring, alerting, analytics, and routing platform that provides observability for infrastructure, applications, and business metrics at any scale. Founded in 2010 by Anton Chuvakin, Bob Moul, and the team behind the OmniTI operations group, Circonus is headquartered in Fulton, Maryland. The platform is built on the IRONdb metric database, a distributed time-series database designed to store billions of data points per day with high availability and data durability guarantees. IRONdb uses a novel approach combining mldb (a log-structured database for recent data) and nmdb (a numeric mode database for historical data) to achieve both fast ingestion and efficient long-term storage with built-in data replication across nodes. The platform collects metrics through multiple methods including StatsD for application metrics, SNMP for network device monitoring, the circonus-agent for host-level metrics, Prometheus remote write for compatibility with existing Prometheus setups, and arbitrary HTTP endpoints for custom metrics. Circonus provides a powerful analytics engine that supports complex mathematical operations, anomaly detection algorithms, histograms, and percentile calculations on metric data. The alerting system supports composite alerts that evaluate conditions across multiple metrics, escalation chains, and integrations with PagerDuty, Slack, email, webhooks, and custom notification channels.
