About this website
Double Commander is a free and open-source cross-platform file manager inspired by Total Commander, featuring a dual-pane interface for efficient file operations. Created in 2006 by Alexander Koblov (alexx2000) and developed in Free Pascal using the Lazarus IDE, the project is designed as a free, cross-platform alternative to the popular but Windows-only Total Commander. The project is community-driven with contributors worldwide. Key features: dual-pane interface: two side-by-side panels display directory trees, enabling drag-and-drop file transfers between directories, FTP servers, and network shares. This dual-pane layout dramatically speeds up file management. Tabbed browsing: each panel supports multiple tabs for quick switching between directories. Archive support: browse, extract, and create archives in ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, 7Z, RAR, and other formats. Archives are displayed as virtual folders. Internal text editor: built-in editor with syntax highlighting for viewing and editing text files. Internal viewer: view files (images, text, binary, hex) in multiple modes. Multi-Rename Tool: batch rename files using regular expressions, patterns, and counters with a live preview. File operations: copy, move, delete, split, combine, calculate checksums, compare files, and find duplicates. Directory hotlist: bookmark frequently visited directories. Command line: input bar with history and auto-completion. Quick search: filter files by name in each panel. Customizable: configure keyboard shortcuts, toolbar buttons, colors, fonts, column layouts, and file associations. Plugins: WCX (content), WDX (custom columns), WLX (list). Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, Haiku. Free Pascal. GPL-2.0.
