About this website
Fluent Bit is an open-source, high-performance log processor and forwarder for collecting data from any source, enriching it, and sending to multiple destinations. Developed by Eduardo Silva and maintained by the project team (now part of Chronosphere), Fluent Bit has over 6,400 stars as of 2026. Written entirely in C with approximately 450KB memory footprint, it is ideal for containers, edge devices, and resource-constrained environments where Fluentd or Logstash would be too heavy. Key features include: extreme lightweight (under 1MB memory, ideal for containers, IoT, and edge), high throughput (millions of records per second with multi-threading and zero-copy architecture), input plugins (over 70 inputs for files, systemd journal, tail, TCP, UDP, HTTP, syslog, Docker, Kubernetes metrics, StatsD, and more), parser plugins (structured data extraction via regex, JSON, LTSV, Logfmt, and custom parsers), filter plugins (modifying and enriching data with grep, modify, Lua scripting, and Kubernetes metadata enrichment), output plugins (over 70 destinations including Elasticsearch, Kafka, S3, CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, HTTP, TCP), routing (configurable data routing based on tags, labels, and content conditions), buffering (in-memory and filesystem with retry and backpressure), security (TLS, mutual TLS, AWS IAM, Azure AD, GCP Workload Identity), OpenTelemetry support (OTLP input and output), and Helm charts and Kubernetes operator.
