About this website
Gitea is a lightweight, self-hosted Git service platform providing source code hosting, code review, issue tracking, wiki, and CI/CD capabilities, designed as a fast alternative to GitLab and GitHub Enterprise. Originally forked from Gogs in October 2016 by contributors led by TheTechRobo, motivated by the slow development pace of Gogs. Written in Go, Gitea runs as a single binary with no runtime dependencies. Key features: Git hosting with public and private repositories, organizations, and teams. Web-based repository browser with syntax highlighting, blame view, and diff. Pull request workflow with code review, line comments, approval, and merge strategies (merge, rebase, squash). Issue tracking with labels, milestones, assignees, time tracking, dependencies, and custom templates. Wiki per repository using Markdown. Releases with downloadable assets. Gitea Actions: built-in CI/CD pipeline system (version 1.19+, March 2023) compatible with syntax from GitHub Actions, YAML-based workflows. Package registry: npm, Maven, PyPI, NuGet, Cargo, Composer, Go, RubyGems, Container (Docker), Helm, Debian, RPM. Organization and team management with granular permissions. Authentication: built-in, LDAP, SMTP, PAM, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML. Two-factor authentication. Webhooks for Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix. RESTful API and GraphQL. Migration from GitHub, GitLab, Gogs, Bitbucket, OneDev. Installation: single binary, Docker, Helm chart (Kubernetes). Cross-platform: Linux, Windows, macOS, ARM. Lightweight: runs in 128MB RAM. MIT.
