About this website
Selenium is the industry-standard open-source framework for automating web browsers, maintained under the Software Freedom Conservancy and developed by a global community of contributors. The project pioneered the W3C WebDriver specification, now the international standard protocol for browser automation adopted by every major browser vendor including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. The suite consists of three core components. Selenium WebDriver provides language-specific bindings for Java, Python, C-Sharp, JavaScript, Ruby, Kotlin, and PHP to drive browsers natively through the W3C protocol, enabling robust regression test suites, cross-browser validation, and scalable automation pipelines. Selenium IDE is a record-and-playback browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge that generates quick bug reproduction scripts and aids exploratory testing without writing code. Selenium Grid distributes test execution across multiple machines, browser versions, and operating systems from a central hub, enabling parallel test runs and comprehensive cross-platform coverage. Development partners include BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, and TestMu AI for cloud-based test execution. Selenium 4.44 ships strongly-signed .NET assemblies and mirrors Grid Docker images to GitHub Container Registry. The project maintains compatibility with Chrome new 14-day release cadence as documented by project maintainer David Burns. The annual SeleniumConf conference brings together the global testing community, with Selenium and Appium 2026 Conference being the latest edition.
